In the Independence Day festival in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, many games were played in making Shilafalkam (monument) under the Meri Mati Mera Desh campaign. The firm which was given the contract to install the memorial plaque does the printing press and designing work. With the connivance of officers, several memorials have also been paid to this firm operator.
Before the Independence Day in the year 2023, the state government had launched the Meri Mati Mera Desh campaign. Under this, instructions were given to make a Shilaphalakam at every Gram Panchayat level. Under this, the memorial was to be constructed through MNREGA and a memorial plaque (granite slab) of about 15 square feet was to be installed.
The Prime Minister’s message and special information about the Gram Panchayat was to be recorded on this plaque. It had to be tattooed and marked. But arbitrariness was done while installing the slab. Only stickers were pasted on them. Which loosened up or burst within a few days. At many places, only the foundation was built as a memorial. 10 thousand to 40 thousand rupees were spent on this, but the plaque was not installed.
Many types of processes and actions in this case are raising questions on the intentions and transparency of the officials. The firm which was given this contract basically does the work of computer dividing, printing of cards, banners, posters, hoardings etc. In such a situation, taking supply of slabs from this firm also raises doubts. DM Prem Ranjan Singh says that investigation into the matter has been started. A complete investigation will be conducted in detail. So that the culprits do not get any chance to escape.
